Episode 56: Real Faith - Psalm 25:1-11

What does it actually mean to have faith in God?

In this episode of Refuge & Strength, Pastor b.Side begins a verse-by-verse study of Psalm 25, exploring the difference between genuine Biblical faith and the broad, often vague idea of “belief” found in modern culture.

Through David’s prayer, we discover that real faith is not rooted in self-confidence, good works, religious performance, or simply claiming to believe in God. Instead, Biblical faith begins with humility—a recognition that God alone is righteous, good, merciful, and capable of transforming our corrupted condition.

Psalm 25 reveals David’s attitude of genuine faith as he asks the LORD to teach him His ways, lead him in truth, forgive his sins, and transform his life according to God’s righteousness. Rather than trusting in himself, David places his confidence completely in YAHWEH, the eternally self-existing and self-sustaining Creator and Controller of all things.

This study explores why true faith requires us to reject self-righteousness and self-reliance, acknowledge our spiritual need, trust in God’s mercy, and seek His righteousness according to His Word. David’s prayer also points forward to Jesus Christ, the fulfillment of God’s revelation and the tangible focus of Biblical faith.

If you’ve ever wondered what Biblical faith actually looks like, Psalm 25 provides a powerful picture: trusting God enough to surrender our own righteousness, seek His mercy, and allow Him to transform us according to His purposes.
