Episode 60: The Influence Of God - Psalm 26:4-12
What happens when God’s power truly takes hold of a person’s life?
In this episode of Refuge & Strength, Pastor b.Side continues the study of Psalm 26, examining verses 4–12 and exploring what the life of a forgiven and sanctified believer should look like under the influence of God.
Building on the previous episode’s discussion of God as the One True Judge, this study examines how God’s authority, mercy, wisdom, and power transform the hearts and desires of those who trust Him. Through David’s words, we see that salvation is not merely about being forgiven—it also produces a profound change in our values, affections, priorities, and desires.
David describes his desire to distance himself from idolatry, hypocrisy, wickedness, and worldly influences while drawing closer to God’s presence and His people. His example illustrates how genuine faith produces a growing desire to pursue God’s righteousness, live according to His truth, proclaim His goodness, and surround ourselves with people who share an eternal and spiritual perspective.
This episode also explores the biblical concepts of justification and sanctification, explaining how God declares believers righteous through faith while simultaneously beginning a transformative work within them. Although believers still struggle with sin and do not achieve perfect performance, the influence of God changes the direction of their lives, giving them new desires that reflect His character and purposes.
Refuge & Strength is a verse-by-verse Bible study through the Book of Psalms, examining the character, nature, purposes, and promises of God and how they equip us to navigate the day-to-day challenges of life.
