Episode 21: The Fool - Psalm 14:1-7

Jun 5, 2026    Brandon Alvillar

What does God consider true wisdom? More importantly, what does God call foolishness?

In this episode of Refuge & Strength, previously called Getting To Know God, Brandon (Pastor b.Side) explores Psalm 14 to uncover God's perspective on the human condition and the sobering reality that Scripture declares: apart from God's intervention, every person is naturally a fool in His sight.

King David—despite being a man after God's own heart—agreed with God's assessment that humanity is corrupted by sin, resistant to God's authority, and incapable of producing true righteousness on its own. Psalm 14 reveals that foolishness is not merely a lack of intelligence, but a heart condition that rejects God's rule, ignores His truth, and refuses to seek Him.

This study examines why God declares that "there is none who does good," how He continually examines the hearts of all people, and why salvation cannot be achieved through human effort. Most importantly, we'll see how God's grace provides the only remedy for our natural condition through the promised Messiah, Jesus Christ—the LORD our Righteousness.

Join us as we explore the contrast between humanity's view of itself and God's perfect assessment, and discover the hope that transforms fools into children of God through faith.

The message of Psalm 14 is humbling, but it is also filled with hope. While Scripture exposes the depth of humanity's corruption, it also points to God's incredible mercy—His willingness to forgive, cleanse, and transform those who trust in Him.
