What if the secret to having our heart’s desires fulfilled by God isn’t getting God to give us what we want—but allowing God to change what we want in the first place?
In this episode of Refuge & Strength, previously called Getting To Know God, Pastor b.Side begins a four-part study through Psalm 21, focusing on the first two verses and what they reveal about prayer, faith, God’s strength, salvation, and the desires of our hearts.
Psalm 21 says that the king rejoices because the LORD gives him his heart’s desire and fulfills the requests of his lips. But what does that actually mean?
This study digs into the biblical context of that promise and connects it with Jesus’ teaching in John 14:16. When we ask in His name, our requests aren’t about manipulating God to fulfill our personal ambitions. They’re about becoming aligned with God’s purposes, God’s will, and God’s glory.
The victorious king doesn’t approach God demanding his own way. He trusts in the LORD, depends on His strength, seeks His salvation, and allows God to work through him to accomplish eternal and spiritual purposes.
When we are connected to Jesus by faith and transformed by the Holy Spirit, something powerful happens: our desires begin to change. What we want begins to reflect what God wants.
True fulfillment isn’t found in getting everything we ask for. It’s found in becoming the kind of person whose heart desires what God desires—and then watching Him accomplish His purposes through us.
