Episode 26: The Key To Successful Prayer - Psalm 17:1-3

Jul 5, 2026    Brandon Alvillar

What makes prayer effective? Is it simply asking God for what we want—or is Biblical prayer something much deeper?

In Part 1 of our 3-part study through Psalm 17, we discover that successful prayer begins with understanding whose will we’re praying for.

David didn’t approach God with selfish ambitions or empty words. He sought the LORD’s presence, His righteousness, His justice, and His purposes. David understood that true prayer is not about convincing God to fulfill our plans—it’s about allowing the Holy Spirit to shape our hearts and align our prayers with God's will.

We’ll explore what it means to pray “in the Spirit,” why prayer is a privilege made possible through Jesus Christ, and how humility, repentance, and dependence on God are essential to Biblical prayer.

The key isn’t finding the right formula for getting God to give us what we want.

The key to successful prayer is allowing God to transform what we want so that our prayers reflect what He wants.
