Episode 2: Nothing Lasts Forever - Ecclesiastes 1:2-4

In this episode, Pastor b.Side walks through the opening verses of Ecclesiastes 1:2–4, where King Solomon famously declares, “Vanity of vanities… all is vanity.” At first glance, the passage feels bleak—like a statement that life itself is empty and meaningless. But as the teaching unfolds, it becomes clear that Solomon is not offering despair for its own sake, but exposing a deeper truth about life “under the sun.”

The episode unpacks what it means to live within the limits of this temporary world, where generations rise and fall, achievements fade, and even the most influential names are eventually forgotten. From cultural icons to historical figures, everything in human experience is shown to be fleeting. Solomon’s question—what profit does all our labor bring?—forces listeners to confront whether success, worry, and striving in this life alone can ever produce lasting fulfillment.

Rather than leaving the listener in hopelessness, the message points beyond the temporary toward something eternal. If life “under the sun” cannot provide lasting meaning, then true purpose must be found elsewhere. That “elsewhere” is revealed in the words of Jesus in John 17:3, where eternal life is defined not as endless time, but as knowing “the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom He has sent.”

The episode ultimately calls viewers to shift their focus from chasing temporary gain to pursuing eternal life through knowing God. In a world where everything fades, meaning is found only in a relationship with the One who does not.
