Episode 9: Death Doesn't Care - Ecclesiastes 2:12-17
We're all going to die.
Not exactly the message most people expect from a devotional called What's Good?—but according to Solomon, facing this reality is one of the wisest things we can do.
In Ecclesiastes 2:12-17, Solomon exposes the emptiness of living "under the sun." Success, careers, wealth, accomplishments, pleasure, and even wisdom itself cannot protect us from pain, corruption, or death. The wise and the fool ultimately share the same fate.
So, is life meaningless?
Not at all.
The burden of death is meant to point us beyond this world to the One who conquered it. Jesus declared, "I am the resurrection and the life." True wisdom isn't found in building bigger careers or accumulating greater knowledge. It's found in building your life on Jesus Christ, living as a faithful steward, and preparing for eternity through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Death may be inevitable, but it isn't final for those who trust in Christ. When our hope is fixed above the sun instead of under it, we discover purpose that death can't destroy and life that never ends.
