Episode 17 - Are You Lacking Contentment? - Ecclesiastes 4:4-6

Are you actually content… or are you just trying to win?

What if your ambition isn’t the problem?

What if the deeper issue is that you’re comparing your life to everyone else’s?

In Ecclesiastes 4:4–6, Solomon exposes an uncomfortable reality: envy can hide behind ambition, competition, success, and even hard work.

And sometimes, “I just want to be the best” really means:

I want to be better than them.

That hits close to home.

In this episode, I get personal about recognizing that struggle in my own heart and ask some uncomfortable questions:

Are you constantly trying to outdo the people around you?

Are you looking for affirmation through your career, fitness, family, ministry, money, or possessions?

Are you exhausted because you’re always comparing?

Are you secretly measuring your worth against someone else’s success?

And underneath it all… is Jesus enough?

Because here’s the trap:

You can win the competition and still lose your peace.

You can achieve more, own more, accomplish more, and look more successful—and still be deeply discontent.

Solomon calls it “grasping for the wind.”

The answer isn’t laziness.

It isn’t giving up.

And it isn’t pretending you don’t care.

The answer is contentment in Christ.

The Bible says, “godliness with contentment is great gain.”

Instead of constantly looking sideways at everyone else, we’re called to look upward to the LORD—to pursue His Word, take our thoughts captive, confront the envy in our hearts, and find our identity and peace in Christ.

Maybe the competition isn’t the real problem.

Maybe the real problem is that we haven’t learned to be content with what God has given us.
